Get fit for FREE for LIFE – Incorporate exercise in your daily life

I believe it’s easier and cheaper to get fit without the use of a gym membership. January is the month when most people make new years resolutions, the most common is ‘getting fit/losing weight’.

People sign up for gym memberships, and is it estimated that the average gym membership lasts 18months. How much money is wasted on gym memberships? According to a survey by Sainsburys £200 million is wasted on unused gym memberships per year.

The best way to keep fit at a low cost is to slowly have a lifestyle change – swap the unhealthy foods for healthy ones , get moving more! The easiest way to drop a few pounds without too much effort is to incorporate exercise in your daily life.

This way you will burn calories + save money.

  1. Don’t stand on escalators – WALK!
  2. If you don’t have any medical problems, carry around extra weight and you will burn more calories whilst walking.
  3. Niketown, London Oxford Circus have a free running club Mon/Tues at 6.30pm, go along even if you have never run in your life, this could be the start of a new you. Being able to run even the shortest distance will boost your confidence and encourage you to do more.
  4. Sweaty Betty have a various classes in their stores which run for free
  5. COMMUTE TO WORK on foot/bike! Even if you can’t wake up early enough make it a point to walk/cycle part of your way if not all the way home.

Bikram Yoga – Session 1

My sister and I were quite excited about our first class. I walked 5 miles to get to the venue, hadn’t drank enough water during the day (they say you should have 2litres of water before the class). However I had eaten well throughout the day, having some mixed nuts at about 5pm before the 8.45pm class.
In the class with our new yoga mats my sister and I went into the class. The instructor had told us to take it easy as it was our first class. After the second pose I found myself dripping with sweat, by the time we’d got half way through the class all of my clothes were soaked!
I’ve never sweated so much than I did in those 90 minutes ever in my life! We came out of the class feeling a little bit spaced and flabergasted at the experience we had just had. Initially my sister said she wasn’t going to come again, however after getting an amazing nights sleep and feeling energised the next morning she agreed to!

Difficulty of class: Bearable

Mood:    Positive, energised
